Science Writers 2019 coming to State College for annual meeting

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The National Association of Science Writers will descend upon State College for its annual Science Writers conference from Oct. 25-29. The meeting brings together those who write about science for large audiences for workshops, scientific research presented by the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing and lab tours organized by Penn State.

As part of the Penn State tours, the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing (SCDC) within the Stuckeman School is participating in several events:

  • Oct. 27: José Pinto, director of the SCDC, is hosting a lunch with the writers from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Nittany Lion Inn.
  • Oct. 27: Felecia Davis, researcher and director of the Computational Textiles Lab (SOFTLAB), will host a talk on smart textiles from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Nittany Lion Inn Boardroom.
  • Oct. 28: A tour of the SCDC, which includes visits to the center’s labs – Immersive Environment Lab (IEL), Digital Fabrication Lab (DigiFab), SOFTLAB and the Additive Construction Lab (AddCon), in the Stuckeman Family Building will be given from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
