SCDC director participates in World Forum on Urbanization

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – José Duarte, director of the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing and a lead member of the Penn State team that placed second in NASA’s 3D-Printed Mars Habitat Challenge, recently participated in the 10th session of the United Nations’ World Urbanism Forum (WUF10) in Abu Dhabi.

Duarte, who is also the Stuckeman Chair in Design Innovation, took part in a presentation at the event titled “From Earth to Mars and Back: Digital design and fabrication of houses.” Organized by NASA, the session discussed how technologies developed for outer space habitats may contribute to solving the housing crisis on Earth.
