Graphic design faculty member earns top prize in international poster competition

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The work of Ryan Russell, associate professor of graphic design at Penn State, has earned Grand Prize honors in the United Designs Alliance (UDA) 2019 International Poster Competition. Russell’s poster for “Touch,” an immersive augmented reality exhibition, was named the best in the Commercial Posters category.

The UDA received entries from the United States, Denmark, Mexico, Korea, United Arab Emirates, India, Bulgaria, Greece, Taiwan, Japan, Slovakia, Cyprus, China, Argentina and Hungary in four poster categories for this year’s competition: Commercial Posters, Experimental Posters, Environmental Awareness Posters and Student Posters. Winners were determined by the organization’s Honorary Jurors and Presidential Board.

“I’m incredibly honored to be selected for this award by the United Design Alliance and to have my work included among so many talented designers,” said Russell.

Established as an international design organization in 2014, the UDA seeks to build a global visual communication design and educational network to understand unique design collections and to exchange ideas on visual communication design practices, education and culture.

The complete list of winning entries can be found on the UDA website.

Russell’s poster for “Touch” was also accepted into the 2019 Bienal del Cartel Bolivia BICeBé, a biennial elite international design event in Bolivia.
