Zihan Zhou is a faculty member in the College of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State. Before joining Penn State, he completed a Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he was supervised by Yi Ma. Zhou received a bachelor's degree in automation from Tsinghua University, China, in 2007 and a master's degree in electrical and computer science engineering from UIUC in 2010, respectively.
His research interest lies in the broad area of computer vision, machine learning, signal processing, and applied data sciences. He is particularly focusing on 3D vision. Specifically, he develops novel computational tools to model and analyze the 3D environments from big visual data, and apply them to solve challenging real-world problems in robotics, virtual and augmented reality, social media, cross-domain knowledge discovery, and more.
