Eric Sutherland

Biography

Eric Sutherland has worked as an illustrator for the auto industry including work on assembly lines and in fabrication shops. His early training came from this technical, hands-on perspective and he has tried to stay close to this mindset throughout his career.

He has worked for 12 years in international architectural offices on projects in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In professional practice he has been able to focus on Asian and Chinese projects with a special interest in academic buildings and environments for learning.

Sutherland was also a teacher within the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Buffalo. During his four years there he worked on campus projects that were completed with students as part of a hands-on architecture curriculum. One of the projects, designed with Kent Kleinman, won a Progressive Architecture Award in 2000.
