For more than 15 years, Jason Kernevich and Dustin Summers have been working as The Heads of State. They’ve created award-winning posters, book covers, branding, and illustrations for a diverse list of clients including the U.S. Postal Service, Apple, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Nike, New Balance, Penguin Books, Columbia University, and The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
Beginning in 2002 in Philadelphia, The Heads of State helped usher in a new wave of American poster art with their screen-printed show posters and handbills. Today, the studio effortlessly shifts between national branding campaigns, local projects, personal experiments, and illustrations.
They’ve won awards from Communication Arts, American Illustration, Print magazine and the Type Directors Club. They lecture frequently about their work and process and have taught graphic design and illustration at Tyler School of Art, The University of the Arts, and Maryland Institute College of Art.
