The Allegheny County Department of Parks is seeking a summer intern to support the parks' landscape architect with various projects throughout the park system, which includes 9 parks totaling over 12,000 acres in the Pittsburgh metro area.
The intern will work under the supervision of the ACDP landscape architect. Projects may include turf to meadow conversions, green parking lot design, various small-scale park designs, trail-work, green roof and landscape installation and maintenance, and green infrastructure monitoring. Time will be divided between the Park's downtown Pittsburgh office and field work. Interns should be prepared to work outdoors in varied weather conditions. The work can be physically demanding and interns must be able to lift at least 40 pounds, as well as stand, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the day. A strong interest and background in landscape architecture, horticulture, natural areas management, ecological restoration, Mid-Atlantic native plants, and outdoor recreation is preferred. Experience with Vectorworks or AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite software, a plus but required.
The duration of the internship is from May/June to August/September (15-20 weeks), start and end dates are negotiable based on availability. Compensation is $11.50/hr. The work week is 40.0 hours, Monday through Friday. Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the intern. Earning additional college credits is possible if the intern is enrolled at an institution that offers such a program. Interviews will begin as applications are received, the position is expected to be offered in early April.
