The Strategic Interdisciplinary Research Office (SIRO) operates under the Vice President for Research to support the development of grant proposals, and large and strategic research projects from all fields of research. SIRO has developed proposals on such timely topics as environmental sustainability, advanced instrumentation for visualizing nanomaterials, bioterrorism, cybersecurity, and many other areas of research that are happening on the University Park campus. Such proposals benefit from the inclusion of graphics illustrating content in the form of foundational concepts, technical designs, project workflow, data summaries, and management plans. SIRO intends to hire a Summer Intern who wishes to use and develop the ability to apply creative energy to produce illustrative graphics that explain complex concepts for proposals. The successful applicant shall be familiar with a variety of graphic or spatial design concepts and programs (e.g. Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, or CAD software), and with the integration of generated graphics into Microsoft Word documents.
Experience in graphic design or CAD techniques is preferred, though not required. The individual must be flexible and able to work collaboratively with a wide variety of faculty to understand and respond to their graphics communication needs. The individual must also be able to work in a deadline-driven environment that often requires quick turn-around times. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. This is a 16-week position beginning approximately mid-May and lasting until mid-August, dependent on the applicant’s availability. This position will be approximately 30 hours per week but can vary depending on skills and availability. Work schedule and hours per week will be arranged with the supervisor. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in several orientation activities during the month of April. Requirements: The intern must be enrolled in a BS/BA program in a related academic program in the arts, sciences, engineering or communications.
