Planning and Development Services of Kenton County (PDS) is seeking a full‐time professional planner to join the Planning and Zoning Administration team. Located in the heart of the Cincinnati metro region, our agency serves 160,000 residents that live, work, and play in a dynamic setting. Our landscape ranges from rural agricultural areas to true urban development patterns with everything in between. We are neighbors of downtown Cincinnati and are a key part of an energetic region that features diverse arts, major league sports, multiple higher education institutions, and the natural beauty of hills and valleys of Kentucky's Outer Bluegrass region.
This professional will be primarily focused on current planning activities, such as map and text amendments and board of adjustment issues. He/she will be heavily involved with the Zoning for the 21st Century (Z21) initiative, an effort to update all the zoning ordinances within Kenton County. There will also be the opportunity to work on long‐range planning projects from time to time. This position will work closely with the Kenton County Planning Commission, developers, citizens, elected officials, and other organizations and boards on land use and development related issues. The ideal candidate has a proficient understanding of zoning regulations, comprehensive planning, and design of the natural and built environments. Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills are vital. A commitment to public involvement and providing excellent service is a central aspect of this role. Previous experience with project management, code writing, report writing, public speaking, and GIS analysis are necessary. AICP certification is preferred, or must be pursued within the first year of employment.
The starting salary range for this position is $52,000 to $60,000 depending on qualifications
A bachelor's or master's degree in urban planning, geography, or related field plus at least two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
