Junior Landscape Architect (starting salary $47,085) Entry level professional class.
Landscape Architect (starting salary $61, 496) Appointees must complete one year of service as a Junior Landscape Architect and pass Section 2 of the Landscape Architecture Registration Examination.
Junior Landscape Architects and Landscape Architects will work under the direction of licensed landscape architects.
Participate in design of roadsides, design to handle stormwater, design of wheelchair accessible routes (meeting requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act), design of multiuse paths, design of parks, design of wetlands, and design to restore or retain historic features or sites. Will create presentations and submit documentation to City, State and Federal Agencies for review to obtain approvals and permits. Coordinate projects through construction and final inspections.
Will examine transportation project sites, discover the significance of natural and cultural resources that could be affected by transportation projects, document possible effects transportation projects could have on natural or cultural resources, and assist in design of transportation projects to minimize or mitigate negative effects on natural and cultural resources.
- Knowledge of Bentley MicroStation Computer Aided Design or equivalent is recommended.
- Portfolio of work and past projects should be presented during the interview process.
- Writing samples are also recommended.
Minimum Qualifications: To be considered for a permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable from the current eligible list; OR be eligible for reassignment; OR be eligible for transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. Since viable eligible lists do not exist, a provisional appointment may be made. If you are appointed provisionally, you will have to take and pass the next Civil Service examination for this title when it is administered. Employees appointed provisionally must be reachable on the resulting eligible list for that title or their employment in the position (may have hold item) will end. The minimum requirements for taking the examination are:
Either 1. a bachelor’s or higher-level degree in landscape architecture.
Or 2. a Landscape Architect’s License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.
Junior Landscape Architects who have successfully completed one year of service and have passed Section 2 of the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE) will be advanced to Landscape Architect, Grade 20.
