Description:
PSECU is a high-tech progressive $4+ billion financial institution that is seeking a Graphic Design Production Intern to assist designers in graphic production for PSECU marketing collateral, packaging, display and advertising projects. A production artist should be adept in using software applications in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). The designer must have solid knowledge of four-color printing process, and be able to pre-flight, collect files and archive materials. The individual must also have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
 
The design intern works with Creative team to brainstorm concepts and determine appropriate style and theme. The graphic designer uses the PSECU Brand Essentials to design, provides artwork for printing and publication, while maintaining the established look and brand/subbrand image. Creativity, the ability to meet deadlines and follow marketing/creative processes are important to this position.
 
The design intern is responsible for controlling his/her own workflow and projects. Work is characterized by considerable independence in the day-to-day operations, subject to review of the Creative and Communications Manager and Director of Marketing. Work requires interfacing with PSECU Marketing Department Staff, other management and staff, outside specialists, and vendors.
 
Employee Type: Part-time
Starting Salary: $10/hr.
Schedule: Monday-Friday –8-4 pm (summer)
 
Candidate must be bondable and credit worthy.
 
Requirements:
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES - Essential for this position: 
  • Fulfill production workload as assigned by the Creative and Communications Manager accurately and on time.
  • Assume both design and production responsibility for projects as assigned.
  • Work with the Creative Team and Marketing Managers to ensure complete understanding of the production requirements for each assignment.
  • Put together complete production specifications for third-party ESM and vendors (printers, display production, etc.).
  • Coordinate and supply production elements - files, samples, reference materials and color proofs as required.
  • Coordinate production activities to meet deadlines and turn over accurate files, accompanied by complete production information.
  • Maintain accurate and complete production records.
  • Regularly update the library of digital assets with current files.
  • Maintain current knowledge of production applications and processes.
  • Design appropriate layouts within brand.
  • Creates visual representations for products/services as needed.
  • Maintain production of design templates.
  • Ensure consistent use of in-house style guide for publications.
  • Work with Creative Team/Web Development staff in production capacity.
  • Work with marketing managers and creative team to develop concepts.
  • Work with marketing managers to coordinate final delivery of materials for printing and publication.
  • Prepare electronic files for printing.
  • Interfaces with other PSECU staff, management, outside specialists, media, and vendors.
  • Participates in departmental planning/brainstorming meetings.
  • Keep Creative and Communications Manager advised of all activity.
  • Knowledge of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Research in all aspects of promotions, creative, and branding elements.
  • Communication with marketing managers, supervisors, and staff to insure brand standards and accuracy of all materials. 
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES - Essential for all PSECU staff: 
  • Attendance - Regular and consistent attendance is required to maintain acceptable performance standards and routine duties of the position within the normal operational guidelines of the unit.
  • Confidentiality - Confidentiality and document control is essential to this position to ensure member data is secure and protected from compromise.
  • Creditworthiness - Must meet creditworthiness.
  • Bondable - Must notify Human Resources in writing of conviction involving dishonesty, breach of trust or violation of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Code (17 Pa. S. C. A. 101 et seq.) during the course of employment with PSECU. 
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES - Non-essential: 
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Participates in credit union special events such as, seminars, Financial Education Center grand openings, tent events, etc., as needed.
  • Make recommendations regarding personal development.
  • Adheres to department procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND SENSORY ABILITIES: 
  • Repetitive movement of hands and fingers, i.e., for typing or writing.
  • Lifting and carrying containers weighing as much as 20-30 pounds, i.e., to/from building and vehicle, to a storage area
  • Sitting for long periods of time, i.e., at a desk, in meetings.
  • Ability to reach above, at and below the waist.
  • Ability to reach above, at and below shoulder level.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, stooping and/or squatting.
  • Visual acuity.
  • Auditory acuity.
OTHER:

  • Appointment to this position is not subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

MINIMUM / PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: 
Minimum Experience:
  • College student pursuing a degree in graphic design, digital design or similar.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience with Mac and PC.
PREFERRED EXEPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and UX/UI principles, a plus.
