Department of Architecture Scholarships and Awards

Through the generosity of the friends of the Department of Architecture, we awarded 40 scholarships and awards in 2010-11. Student recipients were awarded over $62,000 in financial support for their continued study and travel. The Department of Architecture is pleased to offer the following awards for 2011-12:

First Year

Alma Heinz and August Louis Pohland
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduates students currently enrolled or planning to enroll in the School of Architecture.

Dahn & Krieger Trustee Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Architecture program.

Robert E. and Marcy G. Fenza Director's Discretionary Endowment for the H. Campbell and Eleanor Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture

Established by Robert E. Fenza (’80 B.Ph. Inter-College) and Marcy G. Fenza to support and enhance the H. Campbell and Eleanor Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in the College of Arts and Architecture by providing monies for the School Director to use at his/her discretion.

First Year Design Excellence Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize distinguish excellence in design studio at the first year level. The student will receive a column and book.

Gregory & Terri Scott Trustee Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Architecture.

Paoletti
Consideration for this award shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in Architecture who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success.

Second Year

Corbelletti Design Competition
This award is provided by the Corbelletti Memorial Contributions in memory of Raniero Corbelletti, Architecture Department Head, 1968-1988. The purpose of this award is to award second through fifth year students of the Department of Architecture who participate in the design competition.

Dahn & Krieger Trustee Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Architecture program.

Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. Scholarship
Consideration shall be given to all full-time students enrolled in Architecture. The candidates must have achieved above-average grades or manifested promise of academic success.

Kurt Kristian Stenman Award
The purpose of this award is to honor and recognize outstanding academic achievement.

NCMA Competition
Consideration for this award shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in Architecture. Award based on projects submitted by students.

Paoletti
Consideration for this award shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in Architecture who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success.

Consideration for this scholarship will be given to all students enrolled in the Architecture program who have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.2 and who have demonstrated outstanding design capabilities.

Foreman Architects Engineering Study Abroad Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time students who will participate in the study abroad program during their fourth year.

Richard Grube Traveling Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all students enrolled in the Architecture program participating in the Rome study abroad program.

Gregory & Terri Scott Trustee Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Architecture.

A.William Hajjar and Anne Bortz Hajjar Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is provided by Mark Hajjar, Mrs. Holly Hajjar Lorah and Mrs. Hanya Hajjar Gore. This scholarship is awarded to full-time third year students.

Jamil E. Faridy Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Architecture who have achieved superior academic records who manifest promise of outstanding success.

Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. Scholarship
Consideration shall be given to all full-time students enrolled in Architecture. The candidates must have achieved above-average grades or manifested promise of academic success.

Mark Kates Memorial Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all students enrolled in the Architecture program participating in the Rome study abroad program.

Consideration for this award shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in Architecture who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success.

Payette
Consideration for this award shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in Architecture who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success. “This gift will be used by the University for the College of Arts and Architecture’s General Scholarship Fund specifically for an annual scholarship for a student to attend the Rome Study Abroad Program.”

Reuben and Gladys Golumbic Scholarship
Established by Ed Eckl for scholarship awards to students who can prove their potential for significant contribution to the arts and humanities. Students must have at least a fourth semester standing. The students must possess qualities and have contributed to efforts that are considered outstanding as measured by the department. A total dedication to continued involvement in the arts and humanities is a prerequisite.

Fourth Year Design Excellence Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize distinguish excellence in design studio at the first year level. The student will receive a column and book.

KPF Traveling Fellowship
$10,000 traveling fellowship awards to students who are in their penultimate year at one of the schools with whom KPF has chosen to partner. Nominees forwarded to KPF – external scholarship.

Fifth Year

A.I.A. Henry Adams Medal
A medal is awarded to recognize the top-ranking graduating student.

A.I.A. Henry Adams Runner-Up Certificate
A certificate is awarded to recognize the second-ranking graduating student.

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduates students currently enrolled or planning to enroll in the School of Architecture.

Alpha Rho Chi Medal
This award was established by the Alph Rho Chi, National Professional Architectural Fraternity. This medal is awarded to a graduating senior who has shown a ability for leadership, performed willing service for the department, and given promise of real professional merit through his or her attitude and personality.

ARCC/Architectural Research Centers Consortium
A medal is awarded to graduating student or a graduate student based on the criteria that acknowledge innovation, integrity, and scholarship in architectural and/or environmental design research.

College Award for Creative Achievement
This award was established by Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture, to recognize students who exemplify the objectives of the College with respect to enhancement of the arts. Consideration for this award shall be given to all undergraduate students (preferably seniors) of the College of Arts and Architecture who have proven themselves over an extended period of time.

The purpose of this award is to reward students who have achieved outstanding academic success in their major related studies.

Five Year Design Merit Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize the fifth year student with the highest g.p.a. in all required studios and visual communications.

J. Henry and Minnie Hitz Memorial Endowment
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to a full-time student who has participated in the Rome, Italy Study Abroad Program.

Jamil E. Faridy Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Architecture who have achieved superior academic records who manifest promise of outstanding success.

Paul Kossman Thesis Design Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize the “best” fifth year thesis design project. A cash prize of $2500.00. This award money must be used by the student within a one-year period exclusively for travel to architectural sites. A report on the student travel is required and must be submitted to the Department, with a copy provided to Paul Kossman one year following receipt of the award.

Paul Kossman Thesis Design Award Runner-Up and Honorable Mentions
A “second-best” thesis design project is selected to be awarded the prize money in the event that the primary recipient cannot travel within one year of the selection date. Honorable Mentions are awarded to an indefinite number of projects at the discretion of the invited panel.

Fifth Year Design Excellence Award
To recognize the fifth-year student showing outstanding performance in academic achievement as determined by the fifth year faculty. The student will receive a book selected by the design faculty of each year and a wooden column crafted in the Architecture Model Shop and designed by Professor Emeritus Louis Inserra.

Leonard S. Fiore, Inc. Scholarship
Consideration shall be given to all full-time students enrolled in Architecture. The candidates must have achieved above-average grades or manifested promise of academic success.
