Interdisciplinary team has breakthrough in latest phase of NASA’s 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge, finishes second
When the Phase 3 results of NASA’s 3D-Printed Mars Habitat Challenge were revealed in Peoria, Illinois, in early May, Penn State fell just short of besting its friendly rival AI SpaceFactory. But in the process, the team engineered a breakthrough that moves forward 3D-printing construction research and pushes the team closer to the goal of creating sustainable housing on Earth.

Davis named Carey Memorial Early Career Professor in the Arts
Felecia Davis, assistant professor in the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing in Penn State’s Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, has been appointed the second recipient of the College of Arts and Architecture’s Agnes Scollins Carey Memorial Early Career Professorship in the Arts.
Duarte coedits new book on customization and design
José Duarte, Stuckeman Chair in Design Innovation and director of the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing, has coedited a new book about the effect that non-designers, who have access to mass customization tools – such as parametric modelers, digital fabrication tools and 3D printers, have on the design process, particularly in the field of architecture.

NHK, Japan’s national public broadcasting organization, will be on the University Park campus tomorrow (Jan. 22) to film the Penn State interdisciplinary team that has advanced to the third phase of NASA’s $3.1-million 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge.
Davis receives best paper award at human and computing interaction conference
Felecia Davis, an assistant professor of architecture in the Stuckeman School, brought home a best paper award from the Human and Computing Interaction International 2018 Conference, which was held earlier this year in Las Vegas.
